Ray DeFade has earned a reputation as an outstanding musician, composer, arranger and music educator. He organized and directed the first Duquesne University Jazz Ensemble and was a pioneer in the development of high school stage bands. Ray’s resume also includes tours with Bobby Vinton, Dick Clarke and the Glenn Miller Orchestra. In addition to The Steel City Stompers, he currently performs with Jimmy Beaumont and the Skyliners and the Pittsburgh Symphony Pops Orchestra.

Bob Rawsthorne (Ross Thorn) was the Staff Percussionist on the national PBS TV program Mister Rogers Neighborhood for more than 30 years. He performed with the Jimmy Dorsey, Guy Lombardo, Nelson Riddle and Les Elgart Orchestras and appeared as guest soloist with the River City Brass Band. More recently, he’s been touring with Bob Crosby’s Bob Cats. Mr. Rawsthorne uses the stage name of Ross Thorn when performing with The Steel City Stompers.

In 1973, Rawsthorne and DeFade decided to join forces and combine their talents to augment two already successful careers. The result is a unique, high-energy comedy act with great music. Bob and Ray, as The Steel City Stompers, have had fun entertaining audiences for 35 years.
